CYPRUS ADULT EDUCATION ASSOCIATION(CAEA) is a national non-governmental organization, member of the International Council for Adult Education and the European Association for the Education of Adults(EAEA). CAEA established in 1982 and is one of the oldest Adult Education associations in Europe.

CAEA aims in promoting Adult Education in Cyprus,advocating for the rights of the citizens for education and promoting cooperation between different countries.

CAEA identified areas of Adult Education which could develop the people of Cyprus and their cooperation with Europe.Such areas are: Parents Education,Senior Citizens Education ,Training of Trainers,Basic Education,International Cooperation Intercultural Learning, Trade Unions education ,Consumers education etc.

CAEA organized in 1997 an International Conference on Parents Education with the participation of 36 foreign participants and 100 Cypriots. In 1994 organised the first in Cyprus conference on Senior Citizens Education with the cooperation of the Council of Europe.

CAEA with the cooperation of the Adult Education Centres invited distinguish experts from abroad to lead seminars on the training of trainers in non-formal Adult Education.

Special attention was given to the trainers of Adult Education. Many study visits were organized with the participation of Adult Education trainers. Exchanges were organized with U. Kingdom, Latvia, Lithuania, Belgium, Estonia, Germany, where more than 100 adult education teachers-tutors visited Cyprus and about the same number from Cyprus visited the above countries.

As a member of the European Association for the Education of Adults(EAEA) is very active. With the cooperation of EAEA, the Cyprus Association organized in Cyprus in 2003, a seminar under Grundtvig 3 action, for International project management with the participation of 34 participants. In 2004 another seminar was organized in Cyprus on Adult Education History in Europe with the participation of 25 participants from abroad. In 2005 , 2006 2007 and 2008 6 seminars were organized in Cyprus with the participation on about 200 foreign participants. The seminar discussed issues such as Reading and Writing Difficulties among adults, Intercultural Learning, Learning in Later life, Flexible learning etc.

In November 2003 EAEA organized its General Assembly in Cyprus and CAEA has the responsibility to provide all facilities for the 140 participants from all European countries. The General Assemply was the larger ever organized .EAEA celebrated its 50th anniversary in Cyprus in 2003,during the General Assemply.


Many distinguished personalities were guests of the Cyprus Adult Education Association the last 10 years in order to promote cooperation in Adult Education . General Secretaries for Adult Education, directors of Adult Education Associations, Universities officers, adult education specialists, visited Cyprus and promoted further adult education in Cyprus.

CAEA with DVV-Germany funding,organised in Cyprus in 2002, the first Mediterranean Conference in Adult Education where countries from Southern Europe and North Africa participated. In 2004 the third Mediterranean Conference on Adult Education was organized in Cyprus.

The last 6 years CAEA participates in Grundtvig ,Leonardo and other action projects and cooperates with 25 european countries. Areas of cooperation includes Reading and Writing difficulties of Adults, Flexible Learning in Adult Education, Senior Citizens Education, Intercultural Learning, Adult Learners Week, Self Evaluation in non formal education., employment strategies, the consumers rights etc, training of professional trainers, training in non formal education, Development of human Resources, Family education, ICT training etc.
